A little bit about me

Hi, before another busy week starts with no time for blogging, I thought I should tell you a bit more about myself…
Between you and me, I am not a very good writer and I don’t really know on what to start blogging but lets give it a try by starting by introducing myself!
I am mixed race, my mum is Belgian and my dad Beninese. I was born and grew up in Cotonou, largest city in Benin although not the capital which is Porto-Novo. Throughout my childhood, I went to a french School in Cotonou called “Ecole EFE Montaigne”. When I started high school, I had this cool and crazy idea of becoming an astronaut, the thought of traveling beyond the Earth was amazing! As I grew older and learnt about the stringent requirements of becoming an astronaut, I changed my mind and thought about becoming an astronomer which would allow me to “mind travel” though the Universe keeping my feet on our lovely planet . Then I learnt physics at School and had an amazing physics teacher who made me want to study more physics and apply it to astronomy (i.e astrophysics). This is how I started my journey through the numerous years of study of physics at the University. I studied 4 years of general physics at the Université Paris 11 in Orsay (France), with my 4th year as an Eramus student (exchange program between European Universities) at the University of Manchester (UK). It is only in my 5th year of Uni that I specialised in astronomy and astrophysics at the Observatoire de Paris-Meudon and at the Institue d’Astrophysique de Paris (France). I then started a PhD at the University of Exeter (UK); I am now in my final year of PhD and not far from becoming a professional astronomer, hooray! (after 8 years at Uni, pfiou, what a long journey! )
In this blog I will tell you more about my work/research experience as an astronomer, about my hobbies and life outside astronomy, and about my contributions throughout the IYA. My blogging will mainly be done in English but as my mother tongue is French I will also drop posts in French from time to time (I realise, it might be frustrating to have everything written in English if you don’t read/speak it fluently). Please, don’t hesitate to drop me any comments on my posts, I will be happy to answer you.
